Vertigo Boutique Hotel in Windhoek has only just opened this year and it's not well advertised yet, which makes it a really hidden gem in the increasing number of hotels that Namibia's capital city has to offer. It's owned by a family of Italians (Mary Ann and Antonio and their three daughters) who are just about the most hospitable people you're ever likely to meet and the in house manager Morris couldn't do enough to help us enjoy our stay. Okay, so you're in Namibia, the wilds of Africa and the last thing you want to do is sit in the city... but most people do have to spend a night in Windhoek either on the way in or out of their safari. If you do need to do that, I'd highly recommend this place. It's not that cheap (although I'd see if you could haggle a small discount to pay in Aussie dollars) but it's well worth it.
Set on top of the hills in Windhoek's flashier suburb Ludwigsdorf, the views from this former family home are incredible. And this is a family home in every sense, converted to a B'n'B when the family moved next door. All the little touches are there for you to really enjoy a little bit of luxury, including a huge pool and sundowner deck, but the best thing about the rooms are the spa baths. They are the fanciest things I've ever seen, each one unique and with a dozen different settings to ensure you don't want to leave the bathroom. After a couple of weeks in the bush roughing it in the dust, I gotta tell you, nothing's quite so nice as a long soak.
So if you are looking for somewhere to stay in Windhoek, Vertigo would come top of my list. Check them out
